Our Process
Design Consultation
Free in-home visit to measure the wall, closet, or room, talk through how you will use the space, and review wood species, paint and stain finishes, and hardware.
Shop Drawings & Approval
We produce detailed drawings with exact dimensions, shelf and drawer layouts, wiring and lighting locations, and a fixed written quote. Nothing is built until you approve them.
Fabrication
Cabinet boxes, face frames, doors, and trim are built to your measurements from furniture-grade plywood and hardwood, then sanded, primed, and finished.
Installation & Finish
Pieces are scribed to your walls and floors, anchored, and trimmed to match existing moldings. Final caulk, touch-up, and hardware adjustment, followed by a walkthrough with you.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do custom built-ins cost?
Every piece is built to your measurements, so pricing depends on size, wood species, finish, and hardware. A single window seat or bookcase is a modest project, while a full media wall, walk-in closet, or a hidden door into a finished room is a larger investment. Roso Kitchen and Bath provides a fixed written quote with shop drawings after a free in-home consultation.
How long does a custom built-in project take?
Most projects take 4 to 8 weeks from approved drawings to installation. Fabrication and finishing happen in the shop, so installation in your home usually takes only 1 to 4 days depending on the size of the piece.
What materials and finishes do you use?
We build with furniture-grade plywood and solid hardwood face frames and doors — typically maple, white oak, or walnut for stained pieces and poplar or MDF panels for painted work. Finishes include factory-grade paint, stain, and clear coats, with soft-close hinges and full-extension drawer slides as standard.
How do hidden doors work?
A hidden door is a fully functioning door disguised as a bookcase, wall panel, or cabinet. It swings on heavy-duty concealed pivot hinges, latches flush with the surrounding wall, and can open with a push latch, a pull-out book, or a magnetic catch. They are popular for home offices, pantries, wine rooms, and safe rooms.
Can you match my existing trim and cabinetry?
Yes. We measure and profile your existing baseboard, crown, and casing so new built-ins, entertainment centers, and closets look original to the house. This matters especially in older homes in Roland Park, Guilford, and Ellicott City where trim details are part of the character.
